Bulldog softball seeded 1st in Northwest 5 Div. VI tourney
Ada hosts winless Perry in tourney opener
By Cort Reynolds
ADA__The highly successful Ada High School softball team was seeded first in their seven-team Northwest 5 Div. VI tournament draw Sunday.
Ada (17-3) will host winless Perry (0-9) on Tuesday, May 12 at 5 p.m. in the first round of tournament play. The Commodores are last in the Northwest Central Conference at 0-5.
The Bulldog/Commodore winner will play the survivor between second seed Carey (8-10) and number seven LCC (3-10) on Tuesday, May 19 at Bath.
Colonel Crawford (16-7) is the top seed in the other half of the bracket. Should seeding form hold, CC would play Ada in the district final on Thursday, May 21 at a site TBA.
The Eagles are third in the rugged Northern 10 League with a 7-3 mark, behind only state power Mohawk and Upper Sandusky in the standings. CC split a pair of one-run games vs. Mohawk and lost two close games to Upper Sandusky.
Carey is 2-6 in the Northern 10. The Blue Devils are 0-3 against US and Mohawk, having been outscored 48-7 in those games against the top two league powers. Carey plays CC on May 8 and May 11 in the coming week.
Ada is 12-1 at home. They beat Carey 6-3 in the district tournament at Bath last spring.
The Bulldogs won the second district title in program history last season and advanced to the regional finals before losing to Gibsonburg.
Ada is threatening to break the program record for regular-season wins in a single season (19), set last year by the 22-5 elite eight squad.
