FT. JENNINGS__The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team used a big second half to defeat Fort Jennings 3-1 in a non-league match on Wednesday, August 26.

The Bulldog girls improved to 4-0-1 with the one-sided road victory.

FJ dropped to 1-3 after the loss.

Ada junior Rose Baxter netted two goals to pace the offense. Senior Kenley Poling scored the other goal, and assisted one of Baxter’s tallies. Junior Avary Acheson doled out the other Bulldog assist.

The game was tied 0-0 at the half before Ada exploded for three second-half scores to secure the win.

“It took some work, tied 0-0 at half,” said Bulldog head coach Doug Dewese. “Not for lack of trying, we had a good grasp on the game and held pressure the entire match. We just didn’t find the back of the net as we have in other contests.

“Fort Jennings’ defensive strategy had us some taking some lower-quality shots early on due to (them) packing the box with defenders, so we opened up the field with wider attacks and crosses to spread them out and give us room to operate,” he noted.

The Bulldog girls dominated the Musketeers by out-shooting the hosts, 36-3.

“Rose gave us a great game as did our other forwards, Kenley Poling and Aubry Jordan,” Dewese noted. “I also was very happy with Emily Shanks’ play out of the defense as well as Chloe Hunsicker, who won every 50-50 ball sent her way.”

Ada keeper Emily Gibson made one save in goal. The defense gave up its first goal of the season as the Bulldogs have outscored their opposition 21-1 this season.

“It was a good win and a good way to keep momentum rolling into our rivalry game with Allen East this Saturday,” Dewese summed up.

Ada hosts backyard rival Allen East (0-2) Saturday at 1 p.m.
