Letter: Ada High School Film Club seeks sponsors for 80-member club
By David Ames
Over the last 12 or so years, I’ve been able to establish the Ada Film Club at Ada High School. What began as a single meeting with 12 kids has now grown to a group of 80 students, two advisors (myself and Christina Bowden) and 10-15 meetings a year.
Originally, I paid for most of the cost, or students had to foot the bill themselves. Thankfully, with the success growing, Ada Schools has helped with the cost. Over the last three years, the amazing Ohio Arts Council has been kind enough to bestow a large grant for the organization. With this money, we have been able to pay for all costs. This means students received t-shirts, hoodies, an occasional dinner, field trips, a student-led film festival and film tickets.
This organization has been so inclusive. Everyone is welcome. Everyone has a place. Students from all walks and backgrounds have joined and been able to truly enjoy the film enrichment experience.
Unfortunately, we are now in a year where we are not eligible for the grant (it’s 3 years on, 1 year off). This leaves us at an impasse. We need to raise about the same amount of money ($5000) to fund the organization. If you or anyone you know (people, businesses, rich uncles who love you), please help us to continue this amazing group and experience for the students.
Please like, share, and spread the word to anyone you know. I will post a Venmo on Facebook. If you want to reach out with larger donations or checks/cash, the school address is 725 W. North Ave. Ada, OH 45810.
Thanks so much!
