VAN BUREN__The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team suffered their first loss of the season, 2-1 to Van Buren, in a tight North Central Ohio Soccer Association match on Wednesday, September 9.

The Bulldog girls fell to 6-1-1 overall and 0-1 in NCOSA play with the defeat. VB improved to 3-3-1 and 1-1 in the NCOSA after the win.

Sophomore Shay Smith scored the Bulldog goal unassisted, and it was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Keeper Emily Gibson made six saves in goal. Ada out-shot VB, 26-13.

“Unfortunately, we came out flat in the second half,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. “Fair week games are hard on the girls considering so many of them are showing animals or involved in other extra stuff at the fair.

“The girls put a good effort in, but you could see a little of our steam was missing from prior games,” he continued. “I am proud of the girls for fighting for the full 80 minutes. Sometimes you just have an off night, and unfortunately ours came on a night against a decent Van Buren squad.”

After a busy early schedule, it was only the second Bulldog match in 11 days, and their first since Sept. 3.

Ada plays at Delphos St. John’s (2-3-1) on Monday, Sept. 14. The Bulldogs then visit league foe Riverdale (2-4-2, 0-0-1 NCOSA) on Sept. 16.
