Here is a photo of either a Ada children in a school or church photo. Harry Hahn, the boy in the center is the only person identified. His parents, Albert and  Flora Hahn, owned a bakery in Ada in the 1880s.

The photo is from the collection of Fred Steiner, Bluffton, Harry Hahn is his great-uncle.

Penny S. Emerick, 59, died on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at 8:22 a.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1960, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Oren and Pauline “Pug” (Dyer) Wright. Penny was previously married to the late Tom Emerick and they were divorced. 

Penny worked for Chief Supermarket, Lima, as a cashier. 

She is survived by her brother, Tracy Wright of Kenton; two sisters: Sherry (Doug) Sauer of Findlay and Patty Burkheimer of Lima; five nieces and nephews: Scott Sauer, Lisa (Dennis) Messmore, Doug (Amber) Sauer, Jr., Chad (Katie) Burkheimer and Dyllan Burkheimer; and seven great nieces and nephews.

Jerry L. “Fred” Allen, 61, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at 11:07 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on May 11, 1958, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Joe D. and Luella Rose (Lamb) Allen. 

Fred formerly worked for Nelson Packaging of Lima.  He was a 1977 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School.

He is survived by his two sons: A.J. Allen and Codey Allen both of Ada; a sister, Patty Haney of McGuffey; and his great niece Caley Haney who he loved with all his heart. 

ONU athletes attended elementary school last week. The student athletes visited second graders. There each second grader received a free book. COLUMBUS GROVE - The Ada boys cross country team finished 10th in the 12-team Div. III district 2 meet at Columbus Grove Saturday morning.

Minster took first place with 40 points, with Parkway second (76) and Marion Local third (106). Allen East finished seventh (169), Hardin Northern eighth (184) and Ada 10th (272).

Spencerville and Lima Perry did not have the requisite five runners to field a team score.

Bulldog senior Hunter Wells finished 39th in the field of 72 runners with a season-best time of 19:46.9.

Michael V. Edens, 69, died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at 9:34 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.

He was born on Aug. 1, 1950 in McGuffey, Ohio, to the late Adam Francis and Doris (Baughman) Edens. On May 5, 1974, he married Barbara Elaine Gentis and she survives in Qunicy.

Michael retired after 29 ½ years from CompAir  LeRoi as a machinist and inspector.  He spent six years in the Ada Unit of the Ohio National Guard.  Michael was a 1969 graduate of Ada High School. He coached Summer Youth Sports in Quincy and DeGraff for 15 years and was a former 4-H advisor.
