ADA - Host Ada ran out to a big lead and held on to defeat local rival Allen East 40-32 Friday during their annual grudge match in the Northwest Conference boys basketball opener Friday night.
The Bulldogs improved to 2-2 and begin 1-0 in NWC play with the win, while the Mustangs fell to 2-2 and 0-1 in league action after the defeat.
Ada raced to a 12-2 advantage and led 15-5 after one period on the strength of a trio of three-pointers by junior guard Cade Mullins. Young and scrappy AE stayed within striking distance, but never got closer than five points the rest of the way.

About 20 houses were built in Ada on Friday evening, all within a matter of hours.
That's enough to fill a subdivision. The houses, all one-story, were made by kids...gingerbread houses.
If you are looking to entertain kids with something creative, and gooey, then building gingerbread houses fits the bill.
The project was sponsored by the Ada Public Library, but held at the United Methodist Church across the street because the library itself is undergoing an addition and renovation, but not of gingerbread.

Melanie Butterfield, an Ambassador Level Girl Scout from Troop 20301 in Alger, has received the Gold Award, which is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. Only 5% of Girl Scouts earn this award.
In order to achieve this goal Melanie had to first find a project that she was passionate about. She chose to organize a workshop for the public on Responsible Pet Ownership.
She investigated the topic thoroughly, then built a team. Her team was consisted of 2 speakers and 16 volunteers from her Girl Scout troop, her Venture Crew 601, and youth from Auglaize Bible Church. The total hours of the project were over 160 hours.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Seniors Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter) and Joey DiOrio(Columbus/Watterson) each had career-days for the Ohio Northern men's basketball team as it dropped a 101-95 decision to John Carroll in a high-scoring affair at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center on Saturday afternoon.
