The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved another biosimilar to a drug that treats breast, stomach and esophageal cancer.

This biosimilar is called Kanjinti (trastuzumab-anns). The FDA approved it because it appeared to have no meaningful differences from Herceptin (trastuzumab), which has already been approved.

If a drug is a biosimilar to another drug, that means it is nearly identical to the other drug (called the reference product). According to the FDA's recent approval, Kanjinti is a biosimilar to Herceptin.

Unfortunately, withholding or misrepresenting information to your doctor hinders his or her ability to give you optimal care. Still, 60 to 80 percent of people surveyed in this new study said they had stretched the truth or withheld information with their doctors before.

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center has been reverified as a Level 2 trauma center by the Committee on Trauma (COT), an achievement that recognizes devotion to optimal care for injured patients. The verification extends St. Rita’s Level II Trauma Center status through May 2021.

The COT was established by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to help improve all phases of care of injured patients. Verified trauma centers, such as St. Rita’s, must meet the strict criteria that ensures quality of trauma patient care and institutional performance.
