A busy day in Ada - 1907

The post card reads: "Our busy day, Ada, Ohio." The message side lists an August 7, 1907, Ada postmark. The post card was mailed to John Trainer of Sparta, Ohio, Morrow County.

The message, in ink, below the photo reads: "Social Progress" winning Lehr Prize was published July 12. Think we sent you a copy several days ago. Very truly, Harold.

We don't know the event that attracted so many people, dressed up, to downtown Ada. The photo is taken at the railroad track looking south.

Does these scene look vaguely familiar? It should. Take away 110 years off the calendar and you are looking at the main campus and buildings of what was once called Ohio Normal University. It's from a booklet of photos taken in 1902.

Familiar Ada building

Here's a familiar Ada building, but this view shows it in its youth. It is the "new" Dukes Memorlal Hall. Louis Dukes, founder, has his photo in the top right corner.

Here's a classic Ada railroad photo. It's labeled "Greeting to new students, the first of the term." The photo was taken in 1902 or earlier. Of course, you know the location of this photo, based on the familar Ada passenger depot.
