So, you think you know Ada? Okay, there are lots of Bulldogs in town. Where will you go to find this one?

The answer is at the bottom of the page - hint: you've driven over it lots of times.

This week's Ada Icon poll asks the question, "Should the United States stop producing the penny?" We pose the question since Canada has decided to quit producing its penny. We invite viewers to provide opinions by voting in the current Icon poll.

Here is the basic breakdown of the penny debate.  This is a synopsis of this article on About.com. http://coins.about.com/od/uscoins/i/penny_debate.htm

Yes Penny

Here is the basic breakdown of the penny debate.  This is a synopsis of this article on About.com.

Yes Penny

  • Prices go up because everything will get rounded up, not down.
  • Poor people make more small purchases and so will be burdened most heavily.
  • Lots of little charities rely on people's willingness to give away pennies.
  • No pennies means more nickels.  They cost more to make than pennies.
  • Nostalgia. Sentimentality. Change is hard (no pun intended.)
  • Lincoln.

No Penny

So, you think you know Ada! Okay, where have you enjoyed the music of these two long-time Ada musicians? We don't know the tune they are playing, but from their perch, they've watched you for a very long time.

By the way, the violinist is a lefty!

The internet is ripe with many cool things. We at the Icon thought this was pretty neat.

Brandon Martin-Anderson created a map that contains a dot for every single person counted in the last U.S. and Canadian censuses.  That means 341,817,095 dots.

According to the site, he wanted "an image of human settlement patterns unmediated by proxies like city boundaries, arterial roads, state lines, etc."  So he wrote a computer program and fed in the information from the census.
