New Icon holiday plans begin October 10

When folks want to know what's happening and when, they often contact the Icon.

Recently readers have asked whether Wilson Sporting Goods would have a garage sale this year.

Manager Andy Wentling told us the following: “No garage sale [in 2022]. It is going to be several years until we can do it again as we are growing / expanding and no longer have the room to have the garage sale.”

Father’s Day inspiration

Father’s Day shouldn’t pass without a mention in the Icons. I’m sorry to say that Mother’s Day 2022 passed without note on our Bluffton site, while Ada received a shopping countdown. Indeed, gifts and meals are often how we lavish love on family members. In my own family, Mother’s Day has been squeezed in between countless soccer tournaments and graduations, while Father’s Day in June seems a bit more leisurely.

Since taking the reins of the Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon in September 2021, my time has passed in this fashion: long days and incredibly fast weeks and months. I’m still introducing myself as the “new Fred”—meaning former editor-owner Fred Steiner—and “How’s it going at the Icon?” has become a familiar greeting.

It’s going great: I’m learning something new and meeting someone new every day.

Wedding and anniversary announcements on the Icon

Planning to be a June bride or groom? Celebrating a June wedding from 25 or more years ago? The Icon will happily post your announcement.

For weddings, we recommend submitting:

  • An engagement photograph
  • Where the couple is from
  • Parents' names and hometowns
  • The couple's occupations and education
  • A general wedding timeframe
