Iconoclast View

The Ada Icon is fascinated by trains, as most viewers know. On Dec. 2 two Icon photographers captured this freight coming east from Lima.

Our photo essay includes still photos of the advancing and then passing freight.

In addition, we took a video of the train, which was pulling oil cars - we lost track of the number - in a fast freight through Ada.

The former mainline Pennsylvania Railroad through Ada is one a single-track Indiana and Ohio Railway, which is part of the Genese & Wyoming short line system.

Did she shine? Will she move on to the next level?

Who is "she" we are talking about?

We are referring to Raegan Cox, the 11-year-old daughter of Heather and Craig Cox. Heather is an assistant vice president of Liberty National Bank in Ada, and Craig manages a Lima Save-A-Lot. The family lives in Miller City where Raegan is a sixth grader.

We asked Heather to write a few words about their experience at Cobo Hall in Detroit when Raegan was invited to audition for a popular NBC TV show.

Heather wrote:
"Raegan left for America’s Got Talent Detroit auditions at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Leaf pick-up will be delayed this week, due to a problem with the vehicle that collects the leaves.

Ada Assistant Administrator Jamie Hall said the machine developed a leak in its radiator and is being serviced.

“We’re already getting some calls,” Hall said of the delays.  He said he expects the vehicle to be back in service before the end of the week.

Leaves are picked up Monday through Friday through November. (Amy Eddings photo)

Kamron Wilkerson (left) and Garrett Rettig hold up a few of the many bags of food that the Scouts collected Saturday during a door-to-door drive to restock the Ada Food Pantry, which is housed in the Presbyterian Church basement.

The giving by townspeople tobthe Scouts for the pantry was considered "good" this year and appreciated. (Monty Siekerman photo)
