The Lady Bears punched their ticket to the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament championship game for the second consecutive season on Thursday evening with a hard-fought 80-72 victory over Otterbein. Northern will host No. 2-seeded Marietta at King-Horn in the tournament championship contest at 3 p.m. on Saturday with a trip to the 2018 NCAA III tourney on the line.
Members of the Toledo Ohio Ghost Hunting Society will give a chilling ghost talk at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main.
Society members will describe their experiences with spirits from beyond.
Also, they will tell about some of their most haunted locations in the area, and end the program with a question and answer session.
Harold St. John will be among Society members attending. He is an instructor at Owens Community College where he teaches Ghost Hunting 101 and 102. He is also host of a live ghost talk show and Web stream show.
Three Ada residents accepted awards from the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance during the group’s annual meeting attended by 215 people in McIntosh Center ballroom on Thursday evening.
The ONU Symphony will perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Freed Center. Tickets will be available at the door.
In support of Black History Month, the Symphony will present William Grant Still's Symphony No. 1 (Afro-American Symphony). This piece is monumental, as Still was the first African-American to compose a symphony and an opera, as well as to conduct a leading American orchestra. Still incorporates blues and African-American styles, while melding jazz and traditional orchestral techniques.
Ohio Northern junior Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year for 2018 in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches. ONU will play in the OAC finals at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at John Carroll.
Senior Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter) was also a First team All-OAC pick and senior Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson) was an Honorable mention All-Conference selection.
