Ethel L. Watkins, age 86, died on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 2:59 a.m. at her residence in Alger.
She was born on March 17, 1931 in Estille, Kentucky to Nathan and Nancy (Conley) VanHoose who preceded her in death. On May 27, 1960 Ethel married Ralph Watkins who prededed her in death on December 24, 1985.
Ethel retired from Rudolph Foods in Westminster after working as an assembler for 11 years. She was a life member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 Women’s Auxiliary.
ADA - Visiting Columbus Grove outscored Ada 9-1 down the final stretch to pull out a hard-fought 51-41 Northwest Conference boys basketball win before a big crowd Friday night.
The purple and gold dropped to 4-16 overall and 2-5 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, a young Grove squad improved to 9-11 and 4-3 in league play after their fourth victory in five outings.

The Ohio Northern men's basketball team dropped an 88-68 decision to the visiting Marietta Pioneers on Saturday afternoon as it celebrated Senior Day at the ONU Sports Center.
With the loss, the Polar Bears (17-8 overall, 12-6 OAC) clinched the No. 3 seed in next weeks Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, while the Pioneers (20-5, 14-4) grabbed the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

MARIETTA — It took 50 minutes, including two overtime periods for the No. 21-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team to grind out a 93-85 victory over Marietta and claim the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title outright on Saturday afternoon at Ban Johnson Arena.
The Polar Bears move to 21-4 overall and 15-3 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 21-4, 14-4.
With the victory, Northern claimed the OAC Regular Season title outright for the fourth straight season and will own the No. 1 seed in next weeks OAC Tournament.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2017-18 schedule on Fridayevening with a 6-3 loss at Kalamazoo (Mich.) at the Markin Center.
The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) got two victories from freshman Sabine Worthoff (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame).
Worthoff won 6-3, 7-6(4) at No. 4 singles and combined with senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.) won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
