WAYNESFIELD - Ada defeated host Waynesfield-Goshen 45-38 in the semifinals of the inaugural Border Battle girls' basketball tournament Thursday evening.
The Lady Bulldogs advance to the finals and improved to 2-6 with the victory, while the Lady Tigers fell to 2-7 and into the consolation game after the defeat.
Junior guard Raina England poured in a career-high 18 points to pace Ada to victory. The Bulldogs outscored W-G 27-16 over the middle quarters to provide the impetus to victory.
A 19-12 second quarter outburst gave Ada a 24-20 halftime edge, and they held onto the lead from there.
The Ada Icon caught the smiles of many people in 2017.

The tipoff times for the Border Battle boys basketball games tonight have been changed.
The USV vs Allen East game will begin at 5 p.m.
The Ada vs Waynesfield game will begin at 7 p.m.
The games will be played in Waynesfield. One ticket is good for admission to both games.
The Ohio Northern women's soccer team excelled in the classroom during the Fall semester to cap off a successful 2017 campaign under 14th-year head coach Mark Batman.
The Polar Bears posted a cumulative team grade point average of 3.42.
Northern also saw 12 of its 26 players named to the Dean's List during the Fall semester.
The Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two cases at the law school on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The first case, Criminal, The State of Ohio vs. Nathan S. Brown (Hancock County), is an appeal involving a conviction and sentence of involuntary manslaughter and corrupting another with drugs.
The second case, Civil, Cintas Corporation vs. Findlay Chrysler Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Inc. (Hancock County) is an appeal involving a breach of contract, specifically under the liquidated damages clause.
