Ada schools part of 12-district effort seeking laptops for students

In hopes of garnering state Straight A grant funds for this region, 12 area school districts have joined forces to submit a proposal for an innovative project that would put laptop computers and other devices into students’ hands and establish a way for teachers in all the schools to share ideas and experiences.

The new Straight A Fund is part of Ohio’s $62 billion, two-year state operating budget. The $250 million grant program aims to reward creative ideas that boost student achievement, reduce spending or put an impressive share of resources into classrooms.

Jalapeno's chicken tortilla voted Buy Ada First soup-off winner

Over 125 Halloween party-goers enjoyed the best soup in Ada on Monday during the first-ever Buy Ada First soup cookoff.

Jalapenos were voted the favorite of four soups, in a close voting, Jalapeno's winning entry was chicken tortilla soup. Other soup competitors were chili soup from Ada Express Mart, Italian wedding soup from Little Mexico and curried squash soup from Sodexo.

Kaleigh Heitmeyer was the winner of the Pumpkins on Main hunt. Her entry was chosen from all the participants in the contest. She won a gift basket of prizes.

An artist colony forming in Ada and you'll find their works in Health-Chek

Over the late summer, a downtown Ada business had a transformation and now carries lots of locally created art and crafts from Ada area artisans.

The “art store” is Health-Chek, 117 S. Main St., owned by Alisa Armbrecht, which continues to carry supplements, vitamins and minerals.

On the art side, customers will now find art, craft items and books by Karen Ward, Lynn Scott, Ellie Miller (Lynn’s mother), Vanessa Ward, Darlene Bowers, Vicki Wolke, Vicki Coldiron, Jennifer McDougall, Pat Pateleno, Deb Curlis, Alisa Armbrecht, Mary Hackworth and Catherine Craker.

Hardin County Historical Museums seek board members

The Hardin County Historical Museums is seeking people interested in serving on the Board of Trustees.  A trustee serves four years.  Trustees must be interested in history, willing to serve on committees, attend monthly board meetings and support the mission of the Museum. 

Many of events and activities at the Museum are in the evening and on Saturday and Sunday.  Trustees are encouraged to help plan and participate in those events.  Trustees must also be members in good standing of the Museum.

Feels like October in Ohio

Between the temperatures and the autumnal light, October is turning out lovely. According to statistics collected by local weather observer Guy Verhoff, for the first 18 days of October high temperatures were 65 degrees (F) or warmer.  Twice during that time the high temp was 79 degrees. It's only been in the last few days that we are shifting away from that.

Fall days have fall nights and those temperature are staying lower.   In fact, October night time lows have been in the 40's for 14 of 21 days.
