39 years on village council, treasurer of F&M Picnic, 4-H advisor, retired from Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative

Donald “Don” Fleming, loving husband and father of two sons, passed away on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020 at the age of 77.

Don was born on Feb, 9, 1943, in Liberty Township, Hardin County to Clarence and Geneva (Reichenbach) Fleming. He married Connie Fleming on June 19, 1976, and he raised two sons – Mark and Steve Browne.

He retired from the Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative after 22 years. Over his career, he also worked for Agro Sytems and the Ada Farmers Exchange Company. He was an active member of Ada First United Methodist Church where he served on various committees.

James A. “Jim” Brown, 68, passed away on Sunday, Octr. 4, 2020 at 7:17 a.m. at his residence in Harrod.

He was born on April 11, 1952, in Lima, Ohio to Ronald H. and Eleanor (Graham) Brown who survive in Lima. On Oct. 15, 1972, Jim married Jill C. Miller and she survives in Harrod.

She owned Day-By-Day Child Care Center and the Red Fox Inn

Rita M. Stahl, 82, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at her residence in Ada.

She was born on March 5, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Stephen and Mary (Kopkash) Vidman who preceded her in death. On July 25, 1959, she married John P. “Jack” Stahl who preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2010.

Rita was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada and the Altar & Rosary Society of the church. She was a Eucharistic Minister and she taught CCD at the church. She was the owner of the Day-By-Day Child Care Center and the Red Fox Inn of Ada.  Rita volunteered with Lima Memorial Hospital and Catholic Charities. 

Ronald E. “Ron” Curtis, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at 12:40 a.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on July 29, 1944, in Lima, Ohio to the late Earl and Fern (Shields) Curtis.  On November 26, 1969 Ronald married Kathy Knupp and she survives in Lima.

Ronald retired from Dana Corporation. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served from 1963 to 1965.  He was a member of the Eagles Post #370 of Lima. Ronald loved to golf, play cards and watch his grandchildren play sports.   

Charles F. “Chuck” Smith, Jr., 61, passed away on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, in the early morning due to an auto accident. 

He was born on Aug. 12, 1959 in Washington, D.C., to Charles and Etta (Kearns) Smith, Sr.  His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Harrod.      

Chuck worked as an independent insurance agent. He was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Kenton. Chuck was always generous with his time, money and love. He loved people, Mexican food and was known as the “Cookie Man.” Chuck especially loved his children and grandchildren.   

Louis D. Vottero was a professor, assistant dean and interim dean of the Raabe College of Pharmacy

Retired ONU pharmacy faculty member Louis D. Vottero, 87, of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, died at home on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, with his wife of 64 years, Barbara June Field Vottero, at his side.

He is survived by their four sons, Louis (Tammy) of Albuquerque, N.M., John (Lynn) of Bexley, Ohio, Brett (Jane)of Wilbraham, Mass., and David (Lisa) of Columbus, Ohio. 

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Nick, Amelia, Louis, Gina, Grace, Chloe, Jacob, Elijah and Audrey, and one great-grandson, Lucas.
