Obituaries

Mark S. Garver, 63, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at 5:32 a.m. at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on June 29, 1955, in Lima to the late Albert “Bud” and Mae Ann (Evans) Garver. On July 6, 2007, Mark married Mary Fox who survives in Ada.

Mark worked as a machinist at BPR Manufacturing in Lima.  He was an avid New England Patriots fan. Mark loved to go to garage sales and to collect antiques.  He enjoyed history and doing genealogy. The family would especially like to thank the caretakers at St. Rita’s on 4A, 7E, and 5K.

Glenna Hover Kriewald passed away peacefully Feb. 19, 2019. She was born to Scot and Martha Hover near West Newton, Ohio, on Dec. 15, 1931.  She graduated in 1949 from Harrod High School.  She earned a nursing degree from Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.

Glenna married Don Smith of Harrod, Ohio.  They spent several years working in the Quaker City area in southern Ohio.  In 1960, they moved to Mesa, Arizona.  Don was a prison guard near Florence and Glenna was a surgical nurse for an eye doctor.

Alice M. Winegardner, 88, died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 10:30 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on Sept. 12,1930, in Van Wert to the late Lloyd and Pearl (Beam) Haviland. On April 23, 1950, Alice married Kenneth O. Winegardner and they were one month shy of their 60th wedding anniversary when he preceded her in death on March 23, 2010.

Alice worked at Adon Studio, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company in Lima, The Fertilizer Plant in Harrod, did  housework and home health care.

Frank J. Burkholder, 76, died on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at 8 p.m., at his residence in Alger. 

He was born on Jan. 15, 1943, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Sidney and Cleora (Amstutz) Burkholder. On April 11, 1968, Frank married Terrall A. Lambert and she survives in Alger.

Frank was a farmer.  He was a U.S. Army veteran. 

Also surviving is his daughter, Valerie Stoneburner of Anderson, Ind.; two grandchildren: Ashley and Ryan Stoneburner; a brother, Roger Burkholder of Alger; and two sisters: Mary Ellen (Russell) Ludwig of Findlay and Janet (Dennis) Nagy of Piqua.

He was preceded in death by a sister, LaDonna Meyer.

She had celebrated her 101th birthday in July

Dolores J. Smith, 101, of Ada, Ohio, formerly of Kenton, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at 1:55 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on July 24, 1917, in Flint, Mich., to the late Albert B. and Gretchen (Woods) Trafelet.  On Dec. 30, 1943, Dolores married Harry Curtis Smith, Jr., and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2014.

Dolores retired from Ohio Northern University, Ada, where she had worked as a librarian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada and Kenton.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #364 of Kenton.

Joseph Samraney of Beechview, formerly of the Hill District, died on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019. 

Son of the late Charles N. and Asma; beloved husband of Sheila; step-father of Kimberly Rene and Christopher Kastens; brother of Michael "Michie" (Joanne) Samraney and Elaine (Joe) Renshaw, and the late Loretta Samraney and Rosemary Brown. 

Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; brother-in-law of Sharon Hubbell, and step-grandfather of Aden Kastens.  Joe spent 1965-2006 in the Washington, D.C. area.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.  Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery, LaFayette.
