The ONU Polar Robotics team participated in the Xtreme BOTS competition in Dayton on Saturday, making it to the round of 16 and winning $1,000 for best documentation.
Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 9-15.
The junior finished fourth overall in the 800-meter run, and tied his own mark for the fastest time nationally among Div. III athletes at the Mt. Sac Relays.
Molinaro finished the event in 1:49.30 and was within one second of the first place runner.
The junior competed at the Beach Invitational the next day in the 800-meter run.
He finished third overall in the event in 1:48.92 and ran the fastest time nationally among Div. III athletes.
Rebecca Carman, an ONU senior graphic design major from Bellefontaine is a recipient of the Student Excellence Award from the New American Colleges & Universities (NAC&U).
The award recognizes the outstanding contributions to professional programs, the liberal arts, and/or civic engagement.
Carman's submission, “Design for Good,” addressed sustainability practices and a design for good platform, a strategic design initiative committed to public good, social impact, and civic engagement. Her entry was selected from other student applications by The NAC&U member institutions.
What is ONU's International Play Festival and what works will be performed this year?
What is this Festival? Since its creation in 2003, the International Play Festival has been entertaining and challenging audiences with new, innovative work from around the globe.
What will this year feature? Staged readings of two, full-length works, with three performances each: Prometheus, the Beginning by Ramón Griffero of Chile and Babysitter by Catherine Léger of Québec. ONU will premiere the first English translation of these plays.
Professor Eva Maglott was honored on ONU's Founders Day this year because she represents the inclusiveness, determination and achievement of the university.
Eva Sisson was born in Ft. Smith, Ark., in 1860. She enrolled at Northwestern Ohio Normal School in 1876, graduating with an A.B. from the Classical Course in 1878. The school, of course, would later become Ohio Northern University.
She returned to Ada in 1880 and married professor Frederick Maglott, one of ONU’s original owners. She herself joined the faculty in 1881, teaching mathematics and Latin.
A $25,000 gift from the Northwestern Ohio Pharmacist Association endowed an ONU scholarship for pharmacy students from northwestern Ohio. Association President Bob Beat and officers Dawn Davis and Melanie Dyer, presented the check to President Dan DiBiasio and Dean Steve J. Martin as a part of ONU's Founders Day celebration
