Ambassador Teuta Sahatqija from Kosovo will speak on “The Leadership Roles of Women in Transitional States” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14 at the law school. The talk is free and open to the public.
Sahatqija is head of the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Kosovo in New York City, where she is in charge of the Kosovo Consulate and liaison with the United Nations.
She is a well-known activist for women’s economic and political empowerment and her work has been documented in many international publications.
The Ohio Northern University Symphonic Band will present a concert to honor the memory of Catherine “Kitty” Freed, former first lady of Ohio Northern, at 4 p.m. on March 19 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.
The concert will feature motivational and special music designed to reflect Catherine Freed’s positive spirit and uplifting nature.
Her husband, DeBow Freed, served as president of the University from 1979 to 1999, and she was an active member of both the university and local communities, as well as a strong supporter of Ohio Northern and its students during and beyond this time.
Ohio Northern University Professor of Communication Arts Emeritus Nils Riess has been awarded the Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana from the Republic of Estonia.
The Republic of Estonia bestows as gratitude and recognition various state decorations on persons whose activities have maintained and reinforced the independent Estonian state. Riess has been chosen as a recipient of this award in recognition for the contributions he has made for the republic.
Numbers don’t lie: Ohio Northern University is among the best in the country when it comes to high-impact learning opportunities for students, per a 2016 national survey.
According to The College Student Report 2016, Ohio Northern University students continue to pursue high-impact learning opportunities at a higher rate than most college students.
The report, produced by National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), details responses from more than 300,000 first-year and senior students attending 512 U.S. universities. The survey was conducted last spring.
High-impact learning opportunities include internships, co-ops, field experience, capstone projects and more.
The ONU Observatory will be open to the public from 8 until 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, March 3) when the crescent Moon will be high in the southwest to see Lunar features such as Posidonius Crater with its fissures and the area where Apollo 11 landed.
Mission commander Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle on July 20, 1969. They were the first two humans on the moon.
Other targets Friday include Venus, Mars, and deep-sky objects.
The ONU Astronomy Club welcomes people to stop by, look through the telescopes, and ask questions.
The observatory is located south of West Lincoln Avenue and east of Klingler Road
