Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park Distict announces three programs in May of interest to Icon viewers:

The Van Wert Historical Society hosts the 25th annual Ohio Lincoln Highway League (OLHL) state meeting Saturday, April 27.

A welcome and introduction will begin at 10:15 a.m. by Larry Webb of the Van Wert Historical Society.

Marty Thomas, president of the Western Ohio Chapter and of the Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio will give an update on the retrieval and restoration of a 1936 aircraft that accompanied Admiral Richard Byrd to the Antarctic in 1941.

In October, 1939, Byrd’s polar exploration vehicle, which carried the airplane in the Antarctic, crashed east of Gomer on the Lincoln Highway in what became a national news story.

Alger Public Library will hold a Young Mom Support Class over four Fridays in May. Each class is from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. in the library.

These classes will cover budgeting, nutrition, development, health and safety, among other topics.

Ada chamber members hear about two local businesses

“One of the best decisions we made was to stay in Ada,” says Jason Szuch, owner of two Ada-based businesses.

“The hard-working people of Ada separate us from our competitors,” he said, complimenting the work ethic found in his hometown.

Szuch shared his two-business start-up stories with Ada Area Chamber of Commerce members during the April 17 chamber breakfast held at Ada Public Library.

Those businesses are SAY Security Group USA, and Hospitality Wi-Fi, both located at 520 E. Montford Ave., in the Ada industrial park
