Highway Patrol shares tips for safe holiday travel
MEDIA RELEASE__The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is urging all motorists to prioritize safety as they travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, which is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
In an October 30 hearing, Eric L. Spence of Ada was arraigned in Hardin County Court on multiple charges associated with September 8 incidents in Ada.
Spence entered pleas of not guilty to charges of burglary, grand theft of a firearm, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and 10 counts of receiving stolen property.
The defendant was arrested on September 8 by Ada Police following a review of surveillance footage and was in possession of stolen items.
NOV 1 MEDIA RELEASE__The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is reminding everyone to drive cautiously as deer-related crashes tend to rise in early November across Ohio. There is typically an uptick in these types of crashes due to the combination of peak deer breeding season and the end of daylight-saving time.
“This is the time of year when deer pose a serious threat to those traveling on our roadways, so it's important that drivers stay alert,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “I encourage all drivers to commit to driving defensively, particularly during early morning and evening commutes.”

OCT 23 MEDIA RELEASE__On October 22, 2025, at approximately 9:11 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 8700 block of Lafayette Road (Harrod, Ohio) in reference to a domestic violence situation with shots fired.
When deputies arrived on scene a perimeter was quickly established and commands given for the subject to exit the residence. Spencer Coon (DOB 10/02/02) did exit the residence without incident, was taken into custody, and booked into the Allen County Jail on Domestic Violence, Abduction and probation violation. The victim sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
OCT 15 MEDIA RELEASE__On October 14, 2025, the Ada Police Department was notified by the Ohio Northern University Public Safety Department regarding a mass email distributed to university faculty and students by a former student.
Officers from the Ada Police Department reviewed the email and accompanying documentation and determined that no overt threats were made toward any individuals or groups. However, out of an abundance of caution, officers increased routine patrols on and around the university campus.
