Ash Wednesday 2015 takes on a new meaning for First United Methodist members the year.
Retired United Methodist Bishop Joseph H. Yeakel will preach during the service, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, which will include communion and will be held in the new church building.
The guest preacher is the father of Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel, pastor of the Ada congregation.
Several additional events take place in February, March and April as the congregation prepares to move into its new building.
• A complete schedule of events planned is in an attachment at the bottom of this story.
You can look in front of you and behind you at the same time - if your car rear view mirror cooperates. From behind, here's a snowplow working the Allen-Hardin County Line Road south of U.S. 30. The bottom of the photo shows the windshield scene approaching U.S. 30.
Need some reading material? Better stop in at the Ada Public Library. Books are selling fast and cheap. Paperbacks are 25 cents each and hardback are 50 cents. The best deal is a bag of books for only $1.
NOTE: You might say that the Ada Icon has gone to the dogs - it a good way. Welcome to the Ada Icon's newest feature. It focuses on man (and woman's) best friend.
Say "Hello," to Alice in Hardwareland.
Keith and Kathy Wire hold Alice, their 16-year-old dog who has been a fixture of sorts for many years at the Ada business they own, Keith’s Hardware.
Many years ago, Alice was abandoned at the store. The Wires tried to find the owners without success, so they took her in.
Alice has been the store’s mascot for a long time.
