$700,000, 6-passenger, 2,500-gallon vehicle replaces a 1990 Mack

There’s a new truck coming to Ada next week. You’ll probably hear it as it comes into town.

Just ask Jay Epley, Ada-Liberty Township fire chief, about it. He says it’s a unique vehicle.

Thanks to the passage of a 1-mill fire levy on the November 2018 local ballot,  the local department will be able to retire its 1990 Big Mack Attack pumper.

It’s replacement is a $700,000, 2,500 gallon pumper-tanker, fully computerized. Epley and two other members of the department, Brent Dirmeyer and Andy Badertscher will be on their way to Nebraska on Sunday where the truck is ready for pick up.

Monday afternoon at the Hardin County Fairgrounds

The December West Ohio Food Bank's Hardin County food distribution returns to the Hardin County Fairgrounds next week. Since this summer, the distribution took place in Ada.

The distribution is from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, , at the Hardin County Fairgrounds, Kenton, according to Jason Aldrich.

To received food persons must be 18 or older, have a valid photo ID and proof of residency, be at or below 230 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and sign and eligibility to take food home form.

Aldrich asks that participants have their trucks or truck bed cleaned out as volunteers will not move items to load food into vehicles.

Covid-19 concerns changed this year's drive, however the need remains

There will be no Salvation Army red kettle in Ada this holiday season, according to Kathy Reese of the Hardin County Salvation Army.

“This year with the pandemic we had to drastically change our drive,” she told The Icon.

“With our largest red kettle location closing at the end of October, which was the Kenton Kroger, and huge concern about protecting our ringers and givers, we have had to go virtual in 2020,” she said.

In place of an Ada red kettle and all county red kettles, the Hardin drive is a “virtual bells” event.

Reese said that the county Salvation Army board reconsider how best to conduct its red kettle campaign this year.
