Has special hours for seniors

Alger Public Library announces its current guidelines with the Icon, according to Stacey Hensley, library director.

"We are booking appointments. Call 419-757-7755 to reserve your spot," said Hensley.

The library at 100 W. Wagner St., Alger, is open from noon to 5 p.m. and for those at risk or seniors. Patrons may contact the library about its special hours 

Visitors will be asked to wear a mask, sanitize upon entry, follow social distancing protocols; masks are available at the door

 Hardin County extension office has reopened with restrictions on June 17. 

In order to follow university health and safety protocols, the Hardin County office staff have created the following plan to open for in-person services: 

The office will be open Monday – Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. for the at-risk population, such as the elderly and immunocompromised. 

The office will open to the general public from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. 

A limited staff will be available during these hours each day, as the majority continue to telework to limit interaction and continue social distancing.  

For the period of May 1-May 31, Hardin Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 4.73 inches of rain in Hardin County. 

 Last year, the average rainfall for the same time was 5.12 inches.  Rainfall for May was 0.30 inches more than the ten-year average rainfall for the month.

Liberty Township had 6.16 inches according to Phil Epley, who reports for the township.

Marion Township received 6.42 inches of rain for May, the highest amount of the township sites.  Jackson Township had the lowest rainfall amount for the month of May with 3.60 inches.  

County needs 2 Democrats and 2 Republican to work in each of the 21 Hardin precincts

The Hardin County board of elections is recruiting poll workers for the Nov. 3 general election, according to Michael Hubbell, board chair.

“We are sending letters to all clubs and organizations in Hardin County, asking for assistance in recruiting poll workers,” he said. 

The county has 21 voting precincts. Two Democrats and two Republicans are required to work in each location.

Board working on plans to see services continue without interruption

Beatitudes (formerly known as Restore) announced that Rob Kanzig resigned from his post as executive director effective June 15, according to Jennifer Grant, Beatitudes board chair. 

In his statement, Mr. Kanzig stated: “I am appreciative of the experience, and do wish the best for the center.” 

During his years of service he oversaw many programs benefiting the Ada community, such as Picnic in the Park, which provides lunches for children during the summer; the Kid’s Christmas shopping event; and the Beacon Fund, which provides financial assistance to individuals to help them meet their social and financial needs.
