John Bowers holds Class II Drinking Water license, will start in Ada on Monday

After 20 years working within several positions in the Village of Bluffton, John Bowers, has accepted the position of operator of the Village of Ada water plant.

He begins his new position in Ada on Monday.

Since 2013 he has served as Bluffton’s waste water treatment plant operator. Bluffton’s plant handles over one-half million gallons of treated water on an average day, under Bower’s oversight.

“I started working for the village when I was 19,” said Bowers, a 1999 Bluffton High School graduate.

Working with Dan Bowden, Bluffton's waste water plant superintendent, Bowers holds a  Class III Waste Water Treatment license and Class II Drinking Water license.

Some decisions made; some will be set later

Here's an update from the Ada schools, from the school website on April 21:

Ada Exempted Village Schools Yesterday the Governor announced that schools would remain in a distance learning situation for the remainder of the academic year. As a result, a few items should be communicated to our families and community:

 Graduation – in another week or so we will make a decision on graduation. We realize that the opening up of Ohio is going to be fluid and uncertain, but we hope to have a graduation ceremony to honor our seniors.

Kenton Hardin Health Department is reporting its 18th confirmed COVID-19 case, as of April 20.

The news annoucement states: "We continue to get test results back as testing begins to become more available.

"We also report our 2 recovered cases at this time. We continue to monitor and follow these cases as well as those that have been in close contact. Our goal is always to help prevent the spread of the virus in our community.

"We see another large increase in numbers as tests continue to come back from the testing done within those congregate settings.

The Liberty Township Trustees will not have their regular meeting on Monday, April 20, due to Covid-19, according to Patty Griffin, township fiscal officer.

Governor Mike DeWine announced today that Ohio schools will continue distance learning for the remainder of the academic calendar, according to an announcement on OhioAlerts this afternoon. Watch the Icon for more details on Tuesday.

As long as the stay at home order is lifted

Stay tuned folks, the Ada Lions Club anticipates starting its annual spring mulch sale on May 9 – providing the stay-at-home order in Ohio is lifted.

This is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and since 2000 it has generated $81,450 in local scholarships.

Here’s some of the details:

Proceeds from the sale go to the Lions Club scholarship fund.

Mulch may be picked up on Saturdays after 8 a.m. at Bass Trucking, 0410 State Route 81, Ada. Deliveries are available on Saturdays.
