Ada Area Chamber of Commerce starts a new year with its first monthly breakfast at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Ada Public Library.
Jon Cross (R) District 83, Ohio House of Representatives, is the speaker. He will update chamber members on anticipated legislation in Ohio this year. The Ada Icon is the breakfast sponsor.
The January meeting date for the Liberty Township Park District board has changed, according to Jane Lee, clerk of the board.
January's meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, in the park board office on Noth Park Drive. This is a change from the previously scheduled meeting date of Jan. 20.
Members of the board are Bob Szuch, board president, Ron Klingler and Tony Wolke.
Ada's board of zoning appeals will hear a request for a conditional use permit for two purposes at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, according to Michael Harnishfeger, village zoning inspector. The meeting is in the Ada depot.
The request includes:
• Indoor/outdoor cultivation and harvesting of industrial hemp.
• Industrial hemp processing.
Construction plans include a 35-by-96-foot greenhouse. It is to be used for indoor cultivation and outdoor cultivation of up to one-half acre and construction of a 1,600-square-foot processing facility.
The request involves a proposed project in the Grass Run Industrial Park.
In the words of Curtis Mayfield, “Keep on keeping on,” and this time those words are from David Retterer, Ada mayor.
In his annual report to council, Retterer talks about continued maintenance, expansion and improvements in the village.
Among these includes that the Municipal building is essentially complete, Ada’s new fiscal officer is reorganizing the village account structure, the constant stream of projects demonstrates that the community is healthy, and that the village employees are a great asset.
Ada Area Chamber of Commerce invites nominations for the outstanding business of the year, according to Deb Curlis, chamber director.
A printer-friendly nomination form is attached at the bottom of this story. The outstanding business will be recognized during the chamber’s annual meeting luncheon. It is at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 19, at The Inn at ONU.
Tickets for the meeting are $20 per person with payment due by Feb. 15.
Ada's first American Red Cross blood drive of 2020 takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at Community Health Professionals, according to Mary Hackworth.
"Texas Roadhouse, Lima, will provide hot dinner rolls and butter for all participants," she said. "Every donor, or attempted donor, will receive a $5 coupon good for an appetizer at Texas Roadhouse."
