During Wednesday's annual chamber luncheon

Hays Insurance was honored as Ada Area Chamber of Commerce business of the year during the Chamber’s annual meeting today (Feb. 21) during a luncheon in McIntosh Center.

Rebecca Hunt, a representative from Secretary of State John Husted’s office, also presented Chad with a certificate of commendation.

Chad Hays purchased Hays Insurance Agencies from Bruce Hays in January 2017. Hays Insurance features independent agents. The business was started by Bruce and Brad Hays in 1983. Chad entered the business after graduating from ONU in 1999 and was a partner with Bruce for 18 years.

The Icon spotted this Allen County plate in Bluffton recently. It's apparently for the boys.

ReStore want to "ReUse" them

Have you started your prom outfit shopping? Or, have you decided to clean out the attic, and well, what do you know, there's several prom dresses stored there. What will you do with them?

ReStore, 210 N. Main St., invites former prom-attendees to consider donating those stored prom dresses to a good cause - to ReStore for resale.

Student volunteers focus on mental health

Ada High School's newest organization "Gatekeepers" were busy this week. The group calls themselves Ada Mental Health Alliance.

Leading up to Valentine's Day, members placed positive hearts on all high school lockers.

The Partnership for Violence Free Families (PVFF) brought this program to Ada with training and facilitation assistance. Marlene Vermillion, school nurse, the the staff advisor.

Gatekeepers is open to freshmen through seniors. Its focus is on increasing mental health awareness, reduce the stigma of talking about life problems, and suicide prevention.

Gatekeepers intend to make a positive impact at school, with peers and the Ada community.

RSVPs required by Friday

Ada will host the 12th annual Hardin County Chamber and Businss Alliance annual awards presentation and membership dinner.

The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, in McIntosh Center on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

The program includes a 5:30 p.m. reception, 6:30 p.m. awards program, 7:15 p.m. dinner and 7:45 p.m. business meeting.

Tickets are $25 per person with an RSVP required by Friday, Feb. 16. Contact the Alliance at 419-673-4131 or [email protected]. Payment may be made at the event.

Last year, Deb Curlis, earned the 2016 Citizens of the Year award at the event.
