Playing at home, the Ada High School girls basketball team got a scare from Upper Scioto Valley before pulling away late to win their annual tussle 49-34 Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs finished the tense, physical contest on a 10-1 run to keep the upset-minded Rams at bay. Ada also put together a key 11-0 spurt to end the first half after feisty USV had inched within 17-16.
The visiting Ada High school boys basketball team got outscored 24-14 in the fourth period and lost 66-56 at New Knoxville in a makeup contest Tuesday night, January 24.
The Bulldogs trailed 16-15 after the first period, but rallied to lead 27-23 at halftime. New Knoxville tied it 42-42 after three quarters with a 19-15 third stanza.
The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team raced to a 20-0 lead and cruised to a 55-19 win over county rival Ridgemont Monday evening, January 16.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-8 with the lopsided non-league victory. Meanwhile, the struggling Gopher girls fell to 0-11 with the defeat.
"We had a big lead early and it just grew from there," said Ada head coach Zach Ricker. "It gave us an opportunity to rotate girls and play with different lineups than usual.
"I felt like we shared the ball really well again tonight," he added.
Bulldog senior guard Courtney Sumner canned 11 baskets with one trey to tally a game-high 23 points.
Ada pressed its way to a 14-0 margin, led 20-0 after the opening stanza and was never threatened. Sumner netted six two-point baskets in the first quarter.
NORTH ROBINSON--The Ada High School girls swim team finished a strong fourth at the Eagle Invitational sprint meet hosted by Colonel Crawford east of Bucyrus Saturday, January 14.
Ada sophomore Lily Baumgartner won two events and set a meet record in capturing the 50 freestyle race. She also came within .60 of breaking the meet record while winning the 100 individual medley.
Bulldog senior Carlie Oldfield won the 50 backstroke and took second in the 25 freestyle.
