Touchdown called back, ONU loses

ADA -- Junior Will Freed (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns, but his final TD was called back due to a penalty and the Ohio Northern football team fell 35-28 to Marietta on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers improve to 5-3, 4-3.

Freed was 17-of-32 passing for 245 yards, but his 16-yard TD strike to sophomore Rodney Holmes (Miami, Fla./Hallandale) with 37 seconds left in the game appeared to pull ONU within 35-34, but it was called back on a hands to the face penalty on the home team.

ONU men win 3rd consecutive OAC cross country title

TIFFIN — For the first time in school history, the Ohio Northern men's cross country team claimed its third consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Championship as junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) claimed the OAC Individual title and senior Matt Molinaro(Sterling Heights, Mich./De La Salle) finished as the runner up to lead the Polar Bears.

The Polar Bears (80-17 overall) won the team title with 33 team points, while Mount Union was second with 61 points and John Carroll rounded out the top-3 with 64 points.

Two ONU cross country runners win first team OAC honors

TIFFIN — Senior Emily Richards (Delware/Hayes) and junior Ashlie Baumann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) each earned First Team All-OAC honors to lead the Ohio Northern women's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the OAC Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Clinton Heights Golf Course.

The Polar Bears move to 67-29 on the year.

Richards earned runners up honors after she finished second of 120 runners in 22:04.4, while Baumann finished sixth overall in 22:42.9.

ONU volleyball now 8-1 in OAC

MARIETTA — The No. 20-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball claimed at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title on Friday evening as it defeated Marietta 3-0 at Ban Johnson Arena.

The Polar Bears improve to 25-4 overall and 8-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 11-17, 3-6.

Northern owns at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference and one of the top two seeds in next weeks OAC Tournament.

ONU can claim the No. 1 seed throughout the OAC Tournament with an Otterbein loss to Mount Union on Saturday afternoon

You are invited to help start the Ada Historical Society

All of those interested in helping to start the Ada Historical Society are invited to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Ada Public Library.

The group has met twice before and discussed a constitution, nonprofit status, elected three out of eight of the officers, and are considering a dues structure and other organizational matters. To be determined: projects and who will head them up. Your ideas are welcome.

So far, 13 people are involved in getting the Historical Society underway. They represent a good cross section of the community: young and old, longtime residents and newcomers, men and women, etc. Your input is welcome.

Women's soccer ends season with perfect 9-0-0 in OAC

The No. 14-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team concluded regular season play on Friday afternoon as it defeated Ohio Athletic Conference-foe Marietta 5-0 at Marietta Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 16-1-1 overall and finish with a perfect 9-0-0 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers drop to 6-10-2, 2-7-0.
