Polar Plunge Results
The fourth annual Polar Plunge raised $2,000 which will be given to the Hardin County chapter of the Red Cross. About 100 brave swimmers took the frigid dive for charity. Kewpee donated 300 hamburgers for the quick-dash swimmers. The brothers of Delta Sigma Phi organized and carried out the service project

ONU Largest Employer
The local university is the largest employer in Hardin County...largest by far. ONU employee 760 people. Next largest: the ounty employees 420 people. Two other local companies with sizeable workforces are AdaTechnologies, 201 employees, 6th largest, and Wilson Sporting Goods, 123 employees, 10th largest.

"Father, Only in Your Power"
A praise team provided beautiful and uplifting music for the 50 people who attended the Presbyterian Church Sunday. And Rev. Patrick Allen's family had a big part in the pleasant piece. His wife Deb was vocalist while son Noah accompanied on the piano, son Nathan was on guitar, and son Will played percussion. They were joined by Albert Suniga, guitar, and Lydia Smith, violin.

Cold Job with Hot Tar
Kudos to the State Highway Department for quick repair of State Route 235 at the intersection of College Avenue, which is the main entrance to campus. During the week, a portion of the road crumbled rapidly at that intersection making it difficult for drivers headed north and south. Great to see the repair crew on hand so quickly at such a busy corner. I didn't know road work could be done in such cold temps, nevertheless the temporary fix was accomplished.

Pay by Phone
McDonalds in Ada gives customers the opportunity to pay for purchases by phone. Will other merchants here follow suit? Money was the preferred means of payment worldwide for years, then credit cards became very popular, so one wonders if pay by phone will replace "plastic" since nearly everyone carries a phone with them nowadays.
