University student receives two medical laboratory science scholarships
Ohio Northern University student Emily Fanello, a senior medical laboratory science major from Medina, Ohio, has been named the recipient of two medical laboratory science (MLS) scholarships.
The first scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is from the Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) partnership. The purpose of this national scholarship is to help defray education costs, promote MLS as a rewarding career, and help address the workforce shortage of qualified professionals. Applicants are evaluated in four key areas: knowledge, community, leadership and career advancement.
The second is a $1,000 scholarship from the Ohio Chapter of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS). Offered to a permanent resident of Ohio pursuing a career in MLS, this scholarship requires the recipient to have an inquiring mind and aptitude for science; a scene of responsibility, honesty and integrity; and a GPA of 2.5.
Fanello is currently performing her clinical practicum experience at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. While on campus, Fanello was an active member of the Professional Association of Medical Laboratory Students (PAMLS), serving as president during the 2013-14 academic year. She also served as a manager for the ONU swimming and diving team.
