University presents lecture on ‘Slavery in the Heart of Abolitionist Country” March 26
The Ohio Northern University Department of History, Politics and Justice presents a lecture on “Slavery in the Heart of Abolitionist Country: Rethinking the History of Slavery in New England” by Jared Hardesty in the Dicke Forum in the Dicke Building on Thursday, March 26, at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Hardesty, a Lima native and 2008 graduate of ONU, is an assistant professor of history at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. Hardesty’s book, “Slavery, Freedom, and Dependence in Pre-Revolutionary Boston,” has been accepted for publication by New York University Press as part of its Early American Places in conjunction with the University of Georgia Press, the University of Nebraska Press, and Northern Illinois University Press.
Hardesty earned his doctorate from Boston College in 2014. Boston College recognized Hardesty’s outstanding research and teaching by awarding him the Donald and Helene White Dissertation Award for the best dissertation in the humanities and the Donald H. White Teaching Excellence Award.
