University to conduct drug take-back day April 11
Ohio Northern University’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) will conduct “Medication Disposal Day” in both the Hardin Memorial Hospital parking lot and the ONU parking lot on the corner of South Main and E. College Avenue on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Working in conjunction with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, North Central Ohio Solid Waste District and Hardin Memorial Hospital, Medication Disposal Day is an effort to safely dispose of old or unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medications. The event is aimed toward students, staff and the surrounding communities in order to spread both awareness of proper medication disposal and the growing problem of prescription medication abuse.
ONU pharmacy students assisting in the process are Paul Timmel, a fifth-year pharmacy major from Pickerington, Ohio; Kara Horvath, a third-year pharmacy major from Perrysburg, Ohio; and Joshua Soppe, a fourth-year pharmacy major from Lewis Center, Ohio.
Pharmacists and law enforcement will be present for the duration of the event. All disposals are confidential and are not limited to pills, solids, patches and liquids. Expired vitamins and over-the-counter medications will be accepted as well.
Ohio Northern University’s quality, student-centered education distinctively combines nationally ranked sciences, arts and professional programs for more than 3,600 students in its five colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Pharmacy and Law.
