Carl McDorman was a lifelong Harrod resident
Carl McDorman, 86, died on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 5:50 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1929, in the home he lived in all his life, in Harrod, Ohio to Ray and Gladys (Jacobs) McDorman and they preceded him in death. He married Ivalou B. Smith on Nov. 21, 1951 and she died on April 17, 2008.
He retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima in 1990 after working for more than 30 years. While at Ford Carl enjoyed helping children shop at Christmas through the local UAW #7. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Harrod Christian Church. He was a graduate of Harrod High School Class of 1946. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Council #18. He organized the West Newton Community Campers, he took mission trips to Texas.
Surviving are two sons: Newt (Cindy) McDorman of Smyrna, Tenn., and Crosby (Brenda) McDorman of Harrod; a daughter, Twyla (Mike) Preston of Zanesfield; six grandchildren: Jessica (Fiance’ Tom Rittenour) Preston, Cathy Smiley, Kari Miller, Cameron McDorman, Nick (Joy) McDorman and Garth (fiance’ Paige Guenther) McDorman; seven great grandchildren: Alexis Miller, Kawliga Miller, Hunter Smiley, Katelyn Smiley, Noah McDorman, Miles Roberson and Beckett McDorman.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Reva Baehr.
Funeral services will begin at 11: a.m. on Friday, May 22, at Harrod Christian Church at 273 S. Main St., Harrod, with Pastor Gary Rummel officiating. Following the services Carl will be cremated and his ashes will be interred at Salem Westminster Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
