The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will present guest violinist Annette-Barbara Vogel and her accompanist Durval Cesetti in at the Snyder Recital Hall in the Presser Building on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Since 2004, Vogel has been a professor at the University of Western Ontario, where she is in high demand as a pedagogue. Vogel was founder and artistic director of Magisterra International Chamber Music Festival and Academy.

Vogel’s numerous appearances at music festivals and concerts around the world have been met with enthusiasm. She has performed throughout Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, the United States and Asia as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician and has presented master classes in Albania, Canada, Finland, Germany, Haiti, Rumania, Taiwan and the United States.

At age 11, she was one of the youngest students to ever be admitted to the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen. At age 12, she gave her debut as a soloist in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. She consequently continued her studies with Herman Krebbers, Walter Levin, Henry Meyer, Peter Oundjian, Pieter Daniel and Dorothy DeLay at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; the Musikhochschule der Stadt Basel (Switzerland); and the Sweelinck-Conservatory Amsterdam (Holland). She received an artist diploma from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. Additionally, she holds three degrees from the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen in violin and chamber music.

Vogel initiated and created Magisterra! International Chamber Music Festival and Academy, Iowa, which was successfully inaugurated in May 2000 and offers master classes, lectures and chamber-music coaching for students as well as mixed chamber music recitals. She continued to serve as the event’s artistic director, and a highly successful second season took place in 2001.

Two recently released CDs include the much-anticipated complete violin repertoire of Hans Gál, which was met with critical acclaim, citing her “committed performances… [and] winning presence [of] her tone and delivery” (The Strad). Her 2011 CD release “Französische Komponistinnen” includes works by female French composers Farrenc, Boulanger and Viardot and received the British IRR Outstanding Recording Award. About her newest CD release with Daniel Sweaney "Through the Centuries” (June 2013), American Record Guide April 2014 writes: “This is an exceptional recital of violin- and viola- duos for three reasons: the very worth- while unusual repertoire, the superior playing, and Blue Griffin’s clear, detailed, immediate, airy, natural sonics.” Her recording of violin sonatas of European Women Composers Ethel Smyth, Elfrieda Andrée and Mel Bonis will be released 2015/16.

Cesetti’s accompanist, Durval Cesetti  has been described as a “pianist of rare musicality” .Brazilian-Canadian pianist Cesetti is professor of solo and collaborative piano at the “Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte” (Natal, Brazil), where he is also currently acting as chair of undergraduate degrees.

Cesetti has appeared as a soloist with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Rio Grande do Norte (Natal), the Orquestra Sinfônica de Goiânia, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro (Brasília), a student orchestra from the Université de Montréal, and the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (Montreal, Canada).  Some of his recent performances include recitals in China (one at Beijing’s National Center for the Performing Arts), a Chopin-Szymanowski program performed both at the University of Limerick (Ireland) and at Brasília’s National Theatre (sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brazil), and a recital of Brazilian music sponsored by the Consulate-General of Brazil in Toronto. In the past few years, he has performed in Natal with several renowned artists, such as Annette-Barbara Vogel, Daniel Guedes, Emmanuele Baldini, Song Qiang (violin), Richard Young (viola), Stefano Algieri, Elke Riedel, Martha Sheil (voice), Thomas Indermühle (oboe), António Saiote, Javier Vinasco (clarinet), Julie Koidin (flute), Dan Philips (horn), Darrett Adkins, Kim Bak Dinitzen, Natasha Farny, Alexander Hülshoff, and Fábio Presgrave (cello).
