Jon Umphress provides historical overview of Kiwanis Club

Harold Friesner called the 45th meeting (Sept. 11th) of the 2011–2012 Kiwanis Year to order at 12:01 p.m.

The invocation was given by Jon Umphress.

The following guests were introduced: Lt. Governor-Elect Linda Steinbrunner, Ernie Kreuss, Dean Schaller, and Marilyn Darr, members of the Coldwater Kiwanians Club and ONU Chaplain David MacDonald.

The wedding anniversary of Bruce & Sandy Neely (9/14/1968) was noted.

In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.

- President-Elect Myrna McCurdy has scheduled the installation Dinner for incoming officers for next year on Tuesday September 25th at the Wishing Well at 7;00 p.m. This will replace of the noon meeting. Charles Van Dyne will be the installing officers.

-The Harvest and Herb Festival will be held this Saturday, September 15th. Heather Cox reported that the tickets and drawing bins are ready. Harold Friesner and others will assist with set-up.

-ONU Circle K adviser Bill Fuller reported that ONU Circle K is planning to assist at ReStore with root beer floats at the Harvest and Herb Fest. They will meet tonight at 8:30 p.m. He is planning to attend.

-Joe Ferguson reported that although he has missed the last two meetings, there is continuing discussion on the location of the north side sign for the Village Sign Project. The south side sign will be placed on the property of the Community Health Professions.

-Membership dues are due this Month. They should be directed to Bryan Marshall, Treasurer.

-Club officers met briefly with Lt. Governor Linda Steinbrunner at 11:30 am. Linda Steinbrunner noted that Ohio Kiwanis Governor Craig Wallace will visit for Divisions 2 & 3 on Oct. 8th in Bellefontaine. They need a count by September 20th of how many will be attending. She also briefly commented on coming year as Lt. Governor.

-The Ohio Kiwanis District Installation is scheduled for September 29th at the Findlay Country Club. They will confirmation of the number of people attending by September 15th.

-Joe Ferguson presented the club with a participation plaque for the purchase of animals at the Hardin County Fair. 46 students were assisted.

-Kiwanis Education Minute: The creation of districts is authorized by Section VI of the International Constitution. The International Board creates and supervises districts and establishes their boundaries. The district governor is the chief executive officer of a district and also an officer of Kiwanis International. Districts are organized into divisions, and the chief executive of each division is the lieutenant governor.

-Something to consider: Did you know that in the painting of the Mona Lisa, she has no eyebrows? It was fashionable in the Renaissance Era to shave them off !!

Jon Umphress presented an interesting program on his research of the club’s history. He discussed the club’s first year, the Ada 1953 Centennial and the history of adoption of the Objects of Kiwanis.
  The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 a.m.
  The Ada Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University. Guests are always welcome.
