Ohio Northern University will celebrate Earth Week with activities on campus and in the community from April 17-22.

Beginning on Sunday, April 17, volunteers from ONU Student Recycles will clean up a section of state Route 81 from Township Road 55 to Country Road 75 in Hardin County as part of Adopt-A-Highway.

Also beginning Sunday at 1 p.m., Ada Elementary students in kindergarten through third grade will display Earth Week artwork in McIntosh Center. The display will be open through Friday.

On Monday, April 18, ONU’s Mortar Board will begin beautification of the campus, including mulching, tree planting and picking up trash. Affinity Gardens, sponsored by ONU Sustainability, will be prepared for the growing season. Both projects continue throughout the week.

Wednesday, April 20, will include camel rides on the Tundra, sponsored by the Student Planning Committee.

From April 21-22, there will be cotton-candy sales by Phi Mu Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta.

The Toledo Zoo will give an interactive presentation with live animals in room 151 of the pharmacy building on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, at 1 p.m. This one-hour program is sponsored by the Environmental Law Society and will include opportunities for questions and answers with Toledo Zoo educators.

The Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council will spearhead a campus cleanup on Friday, April 22. ONU Recycling will sell shredded chicken sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Technological Studies’ ice cream robot will serve treats, and WONB, the ONU radio station, will do a live Earth Day broadcast.

At 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Phi Delta Gamma (FIJI) and the biology student association will conduct the judging of “Reduce, Reuse, Redecorate,” a contest of painted campus recycling containers in the Dicke Forum.
