Youth leadership seminar in Ada June 9-12; lots of community service projects planned
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) is returning to Ada this week.
HOBY is a four-day leadership seminar for over 200 high school sophomores from northern and western Ohio held June 9-12 at Ohio Northern University, according to Katie Ferren, co-director of Community Service.
The HOBY program inspires students to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 11, is a community service day for HOBY Ambassadors.
According to Ferren, Ambassadors will work on house projects, help at the parks, VFW, Ada pool, fire station, ReStore and several other locations.
"We will be have a free car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.-2 the parking lot of the Rite-Aid in Ada," she said.
"Ambassadors will also hold a food drive to help the Ada Food Pantry. Ambassadors will be around to collect can foods and non-perishable food items on Saturday," she said.
Residents should leave can food items on their doorsteps in plastic bags from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
