The secret's out: Reichert’s host to Ada’s “cash mob” on Oct. 16
The secret’s out. The Buy Ada First Committee, planning the community’s first-ever cash mob, this week announced the location of the event.
The cash mob takes place at one of Ada’s most prominent retail businesses, Reichert’s, 111-113 S. Main St., from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16.
“Fred Reichert welcomed our invitation to host this first-ever event of its kind in Ada,” said Heather Cox, member of the committee. “We hope this will be the first of several more cash mobs held in Ada during the next 12 months.”
Cox said that to make the cash mob even more inviting to customers, Reichert’s will offer 10% percent off all items from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 16. Drawing more attention to the mob, the Buy Ada First Committee will be outside handing out information on the benefits of buying local, in addition to having a few surprises.
Earlier this month the Buy Ada First Committee announced plans to hold a cash mob downtown, but kept the location a secret. This summer the committee held the Music on Main event that attracted several hundred people downtown for a fun summer family-oriented event.
What is a cash mob?
What is a cash mob? It is a new trend where people use social media to plan organized events. A cash mob is like a flash mob, but instead of singing or dancing, cash mobbers join together to support their local economy by visiting and making purchases at a selected local business.
“Participation is easy, tell your friends, show up, make a purchase large or small and celebrate your local community. Join in the fun and give a local business a boost,” said Cox.
How can residents participate and spread the word? The Buy Ada First Committee encourages residents to use social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, to spread the word about the Oct. 16 event.
