A string trio from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will present a concert at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 27 in Presser Hall. The trio consists of Eric Nowlin, Yoonshin Song and Wei Yu. The concert is free and open to the public.

Nowlin is the principal violist of the DSO. He has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Nowlin has been described by the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader as “having a full, warm tone, expressive phrasing, and effortless technical command.”

Violinist Yoonshin Song was born in South Korea, where she began her musical studies at age 5. She made her solo debut with the Seoul Philharmonic at age 11 and since built a successful performing career throughout Korea, the United States and Europe. Since 2012, Song has been the concertmaster of the DSO. 

Yu was recently appointed principal cello, the James C. Gordon chair, of the DSO.  Previously, Yu was a member of the New York Philharmonic for seven seasons. DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin said of Yu, “His sensitivity to the various moods and extremes of this work [Dvorak Cello Concerto] were absolutely perfect. In the slow movement, as well as the second section of the finale, you could feel the audience on the stage with us.”
