Seven Polar Bears named Academic All-OAC in volleyball
Seven Ohio Northern student/athletes were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in volleyball for 2012 in voting conducted by the league's 10 faculty advisors.
Senior Ellen Grenert, juniors Jayce Born, Kristen Davidson, Jeni Kmic and Julia Fuerst and sophomores Rachel Olach and Amanda Volosin all received the honor.
Grenert is also a two-time All-OAC honoree and led the Polar Bears in kills this season with 293 and a .305 hitting percentage as an outside hitter.
She finished her career with 775 kills, 614 digs and 132 blocks and had double figures in kills 36 times in her three seasons at ONU. Grenert is majoring in exercise physiology.
Born saw action in a reserve role in 2012 and has played in 33 career matches with three starts in three seasons at Ohio Northern.
An outside hitter majoring in criminal justice and psychology, Born has 95 career kills to her credit.
Davidson was third on the team in kills with 243 and played in 29 of 30 matches at outside hitter.
She had seven matches with double-figure kills and was third on the squad with 51 blocks. In three seasons at ONU, Davidson has 593 kills and 111 blocks.
She is majoring in exercise physiology.
Kmic is a two-year starter at libero and is majoring in public relations.
She has led the Polar Bears in digs each of the past two seasons and had 572 digs in 2012.
Kmic will enter her senior season ranked ninth all-time at ONU with 1,234 career digs.
Fuerst is a three-year regular at middle hitter and is majoring in accounting.
She was fifth on the team this season with 161 kills and was second on the squad with 69 blocks. Fuerst had a solid .260 hitting percentage.
She will enter her senior campaign with 173 career blocks (54 solo) and 454 kills.
Olach saw limited action in a reserve role after starting much of her freshman campaign.
In two seasons, she has 114 kills in 27 career matches.
She is a middle hitter majoring in pharmacy.
Volosin started 16 times at setter as a freshman in 2011 and played in a reserve role this season.
A pharmacy major, Volosin has dished out 689 career assists in 27 career matches.
The Polar Bears went 24-7 overall, finished third in the OAC with a 7-2 mark and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament in 2012 under 22nd-year head coach Kate Witte.
