McVey, Men's Cross Country have historic day

CEDARVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's cross country team had a historic afternoon at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday afternoon at the King Cross Country Course.
Junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) became the first Ohio Northern runner to win the All-Ohio individual crown, finishing first of 135 NCAA Division III runners in a season-low 25:14.
Northern (46-6 overall) won the 17-team NCAA Division III meet with 56 points. It marked the third time since 2011 that ONU won the team title in the DIII race.
Senior Bobby Borger (Perrysburg) and senior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich/De La Salle) also posted top-10 finishes for Northern. Borger was sixth in25:43 and Molinaro was 25:59 in his first race of the season.
Senior Sam Boyd (Killbuck/West Holmes) also finished in the top-15 as he was 12th in 26:06.
"We ran a great race," said head coach Jason Maus. "McVey is the first Ohio Northern runner to win the DIII race and we had four in the top-12. I'm very proud of how well our guys competed today."
The Polar Bears return to action Oct. 14 when they compete at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational.
