JULY 1939:
COUNCIL PUTS BAN ON TRAFFIC IN FIRE AREAS- New ordinance Effective July 18 Keeps Fire Truck Chasers at a Distance- the ordinance also has traffic regulations including (1) it is unlawful for motorists to use sirens, exhaust whistles or sounding devices similar to that used by the Ada fire and police departments, (2) on hearing a police whistle or siren motorists are to stop at the right side of the street, clear of any intersection, (3) motorists must stay 200 feet in the rear of a fire truck responding to an alarm and shall not park in the same block, (4) it is unlawful for any person on a bicycle, roller skates, sled, etc. to cling or attach himself to any moving vehicle on any street or highway, (5) parallel one-car parking zones declared emergency zones are restricted to 30-minute parking day or night.
