Ada girls fall in sectionals
By Cort Reynolds
ASHLAND - The Ada girls soccer team lost at Ashland Crestview 9-1 in Div. III sectional first round play Saturday evening to be eliminated from the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs were seeded 12th in the 13-team district.
The loss dropped the Lady Bulldog record to 5-11. Ashland Crestview, the sixth seed, will play at second-seeded Liberty-Benton Oct. 18 in second round action.
The Cougars scored very early in the game and raced to a 6-0 lead by halftime. AC extended the margin to 9-0 before Ada scored its goal.
Lady Bulldog senior Caitlyn Stover assisted the score on a free kick from 30 yards out that Gizem Tanriverdi was able to re-direct into the net.
"We took a limited number of shots and had few scoring opportunities," said first-year Bulldog head coach Doug Poling. "Ashland Crestview shot the ball many more times than we did."
Ada (4-2 NWC) visits neighborhood rival Allen East (7-7-1, 5-0-1 NWC) Monday, October 16 at 7 p.m. in the season finale. With a win the Lady Mustangs would tie Bluffton for the NWC title. Ada could finish third with an upset at AE.
