The Ohio Northern men's and women's swimming and diving teams joined teams from across the country to break the Guiness Book of World Records mark for the most people treading water at the same time.

The Polar Bears participated in the event on Sept. 27 at the ONU Sports Center.

The team raised more than $7,000 in donations for Swim Cambodia in order to train lifeguards and help save children there. In Cambodia it cost about $2 in order to teach someone CPR. The donation dollars will help train the trainers in Cambodia in order to stop its leading source of death of young children, drowning.

The previous world record for participants treading water at the same time was 805, but that record was broken with a wopping 1,078 participants this time. 

The purpose of this event is not just for rewards, but it is also to help raise awareness of the global drowning pandemic, and to raise donations for the International Water Safety Foundation.

The Polar Bears will return to action Thursday-Saturday at the Wooster Invitational under 14th-year head coach Peggy Ewald.
