Men score high in running competitions
Junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run at the OSU Tune Up Meet on Friday evening, while senior Matt Molinaro(Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) highlighted a strong showing for the Polar Bears at the Silverston Invitational on Friday.
McVey won the Ohio State Tune Up's 3,000-meter run, setting a new school-record in the event and posting a top-25 time nationally in the event in 8:25.84.
Molinaro led the way at the Silverston Invitational as he won the 1-mile run in 4:11.56, posting the 16th best time in the country in the event.
Molinaro, sophomore Jared Butcher (Mechanicsburg) and freshmen Gabe Dauch (Norwalk/St. Paul) and Jared Fox (Fremont/Ross) would also compete in the 4x400-meter relay at the meet, but did not finish in the event.
Butcher would post a season-best time of :22.84 in the 200-meter dash, finishing 13th overall in the event.
Dauch also competed in the 400-meter dash, posted a 16th place finish in the event in a career-best :52.11.
"Matt had a pretty solid race," said head coach Jason Maus. "He ran well and took a good step in the right direction. Gabe ran well in the 400 and ran a season best. Again, I think these guys handled this environment very well and came here and did what we were supposed to do. We bettered our marks and gained some momentum heading into next week."
Northern returns to action tomorrow afternoon as it competes in the Kenyon Classic.
