Ada’s Mackenzie Wills wins on Florida Courts
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team began its spring break trip with a 9-0 victory over King's (Pa.) on Sunday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 5-1, while the Monarchs fall to 1-2.
Junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and sophomore Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/Northeastern) led ONU.
Ochsenhirt won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Cummins won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and the pair combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) moved closer to the 100-win mark, notching victories 95 and 96. She won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and joined sophomore Mackenzie Wills (Ada) to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Wills also won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, sophomore Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and sophomore Jordan Dodson (Worthington) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Curry and freshman Macey Comancho (Hartville/Lake) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Monday with an 8 am match against Minnesota State-Moorhead and a 6 pm match with Carthage (Wis.)
