King statue coming
Workmen from Accu-Cut in Lima prepare the area where the the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be placed between Taft Memorial and Tilton Law Building. Dedication of the statue will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17. The statue commemorates the visit of Dr. King who spoke in Taft 50 years ago. Taft was the university’s gymnasium in 1968. The statue will be surrounded by a garden area. Dr. King gave one of his last speeches on a college campus at ONU in Ada. He was assassinated 84 days later in Memphis. Taft is shown in the background of this photo. For more about Dr. King’s visit to campus, go to ONU.edu/MLK. (Monty Siekerman photo)
