Ada’s Wills leads ONU tennis to victory
Sophomores Mackenzie Wills (Ada) and Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) led the Ohio Northern women's tennis team as it defeated Mount Union 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Lima Westwood Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders fall to 9-5, 2-2.
The duo of Wills and Curry got Northern off to a solid start, posting a quick 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Northern pulled ahead 2-1 through doubles play following an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles from sophomore Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/Northeastern) and freshman Sabine Worthoff (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame).
In singles play, Curry made short work at No. 6 singles, picking up a 6-2, 6-0 victory to extend the ONU lead to 3-1.
Wills would win her second match of the day at No. 5 singles, posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory, before senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles to push the ONU lead to 5-1 and seal the victory.
Worthoff then picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles to help lift ONU to the 6-3 victory.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to Berea to take on OAC-foe Baldwin Wallace.
