By Darlene Bowers
Join us this summer as the Ada Public Library and the Ada Icon team up to share favorite books from readers of all ages all over the region. Summer is the perfect time to check out the new library renovation (if you haven’t already) and check out some books. Check the Ada Icon frequently to see who is reading what and grab some ideas for your next reading adventure.
“The world was hers for the reading.”
―Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Name: Eden McKinley, age 11,
Homeschooler in 7th grade
Eden’s favorite book is Prince Warriors, a novel by Priscilla Shirer. Prince Warriors is an epic, fiction, adventure trilogy about two brothers who often fight with each other but then enter a mysterious land called Ahoratos where they must learn to stand together.
Prince Warriors is based on the book of Ephesians from the Bible and geared toward middle grade readers. However, its spiritual applications may appeal to older readers as well.
Eden shares that Prince Warriors is her favorite book because it is “fun, original, well written and, at times, scary.”
Eden also enjoys many other books and is currently reading books on how to do scrapbooking. Five other books that Eden recommends are:
• Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald (mystery with art theme)
• The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (classic fantasy)
• A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle (classic science fiction and fantasy)
• How to Draw Step by Step (non-fiction; many authors and titles)
• Strider by Beverly Cleary (fiction in diary format)
So what are your favorite books? What books do you recommend to others? Join in, fill out the Ada Icon/Ada Public Library Favorite Book Survey (see attachment below) and submit your recommendations. Let’s start a reading revolution or at least have a spectacular time sampling all sorts of reads and exploring the Ada Public Library.
